The Shia Aqaid(Beliefs) Course is an attempt to understand core beliefs of the Shia Islam, in an elaborate way. This course deals with core beliefs, and its historical context as well as the spiritual importance of Shia Islamic teachings, ensuring a deep and authentic engagement with the Islamic faith. 1- Usul e Deen (The Pillars of Shia Islam)

1. Tawhid: Oneness of Allah

Sole belief in Allah Almighty in Islam.

It is the most important part of the Shia Aqaid, meaning the belief that there is no God but Allah. Belief in the oneness of Allah helps us in navigating our spiritual path towards the One Supreme Being that is God. The students will be made aware of this reality in a most understandable way by our learned Shia Quran Teachers. 

Qualities of Allah found in the Quran and Hadith.

Students are taught the many attributes of Allah He Himself has revealed in the holy Quran. By understanding the attributes of Allah, Students will get to have their relationships will Allah more deep and strong.  

Shia and other Islamic sects Tawhid differences.

Our Shia Quran Academy will teach the students the subtle difference of belief among many Islamic sects about the reality of Tawheed.

2. Adalat: Justice of Allah

Divine justice

It is the strong belief that Allah Almighty is just, and He does not do injustice to anyone. Students will be made knowledgeable about the justice Allah has done by many references from the past as well as in tee current situations. 

Justice and its implications on morality and law in Islam.

Islam is a combination of laws from Allah in which no injustice is allowed. Muslims have been ordered not to inflict unnecessary paint or injury to anyone. This shows how much important justice has got in Islam.

3. Nabuwat: Prophethood

Importance of having a Prophet

prophet is the One sent by Allah assigned with task of spreading the teachings of Islam and bring common people closer to Allah by teaching them the correct way of living life and the importance and the main goal of life.

Belief in the last Prophethood 

 Students will be taught that the Holy prophet (pbuh) is the last messenger of Allah, and after him no messenger will be sent by Allah. This belief strengthens our bond with the Holy Prophet and encourage us to strictly follow the teaching of Islam under the guidance of the divine successors of the Prophet. 

4. Imamate: Leadership after Prophet Muhammad

The Imams are divinely designated.

The most important belief that differentiates Shia Islam from the rest of sects is the belief that the successor of the Holy prophet is also designated by Allah Himself, and not by the majority of people. The twelve Imams are the divinely designated by Allah through the holy prophet. People have not given the right to choose the successor of the prophet. 

Imam Ali (AS) and his successors’ role.

The students will have the deep understanding of the first successor of the holy prophet’s role in spreading and preserving the Islamic teachings. Imam Ali’s role as the divine Imam will be taught to the students in a way that they will develop a strong understanding of the concept of Imamat and deepen their bond with the Imam. 

The 12 Imams and their directives.

Students will be acquainted with sayings and teachings of the 12 Imams which will enhance their understanding of Islam and build a strong spiritual relationship with the Imams. 

Imam Mahdi (AS) Ghaybat (Occultation) and return.

The important belief in the occultation of the 12th Imam will also be made understood to the students as it is the concept forgotten by other Islamic sects. 

5. Ma’ad: Resurrection and the Afterlife

The Qiyamah (Day of Judgement).

It is the belief of the Day of judgment when every soul will be presented before Allah and their deeds be unfolded and reward or punishment be meted out to them according to their deeds. This concept will be clearly instilled in the students’ mind which will help them improve their actions are align them with the teachings of Islam. 

Barzakh: state after death.

It is the brief staying place between death and the Day of Judgment. Man will also have the result of their deeds in the Barzakh. By developing the students’ belief in the Barzakh, we will enable them to correct their actions and race in doing righteous action and get maximum rewards in the Barzakh as well as on the Day of Judgment. 

Life after death: heaven and hell and what leads to it.

Students will be taught what lifestyle and reward Allah has mentioned in the Quran for the righteous. This belief will enable students have a clear understanding of the core beliefs of Shia Islam and their prayers and actions will be in line with the will of God. Shia Islam, most particularly the Twelver Shia School (Shia Ithna Asharia) has been holding a well-defined set of beliefs that lay the foundation of their faith. The Shai Aqaid has been divided into two sections: Usul e Deen (the fundamental principles of faith); Fru e Deen (the branches of faith). 2- Furu e Deen (Branches of Islam)

These are the ten principle aspects of faith that Shia Islam are dedicatedly adhered to, and Momineen aspire to apply them in every field of life.

  1. Salah (Prayer) – Offering the five time prayers
  2. Swum (Fasting) – Fasting in the holy Month of Ramzan
  3. Haj (Pilgrimage) – Performing pilgrimage to the Holy place of Makkah if financially strong.
  4. Zakat (Charity) – Distributing a specific portion of wealth to the needy.
  5. Khums (on-fifth tax of the wealth) – It is the paying of 20 percent of the surplus income to religious authorities for the use of religious matters.
  6. Jihad (Striving in the way of God) – Struggling on the way to God.
  7. Amar bil Ma’ruf (encouraging good deeds) – Encouraging righteousness.
  8. Nahi Anil Munkar (forbidding Evil) – Discouraging wrongdoings.
  9. Tawallah (Love of the 14 Masoomeen as) – Showing loyalty and love for the family of the Holy Prophet (pbuh).
  10. Tabarra (Disassociation from Enemies of the 14 Masoomeen as) – Staying away and opposing those who opposed and oppressed the family of the Prophet Pbuh.

3- The concept of 12 Imams in Shia Islam

Shia Islam holds the most important concept that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) appointed 12 Imams as his successors: below is the list of the divinely appointed successor of the Holy Prophet.

  1. Imam Ali ibn e Abi Talib (AS)
  2. Imam Hasan ibn e Ali (AS)
  3. Imam Hussain ibn e Ali (AS)
  4. Imam Zainul Abideen (Sajjad) (AS)
  5. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (AS)
  6. Imam Ja’ffar al-Sadiq (AS)
  7. Imam Musa al-Kazim (AS)
  8. Imam Ali al-Riza (AS)
  9. Imam Muhammad Taqqi al-Jawad (AS)
  10. Imam Ali Naqi al-Hadi (AS)
  11. Imam Hasan al-Askari (AS)
  12. Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi (AJFS) (The Awaited savior Imam)

It is the core belief that the 12th Imam, Imam Mahdi (AJFS), is in Ghaybat (Occultation) and will reappear along with the Jesus to establish justice.

4- The Main Shia Doctrine

  • Wilayah (Divinely appointed Authority) – Leadership after the prophet pbuh solely belongs to the divinely appointed Imams.
  • The first announcement of the divine appointment was made at Ghadir e Khum by appointing Imam Ali As to be the first divine Authority after the Prophet.
  • Infallibility (Ismat)
  • All the prophets and the Imams are divinely guided and protected from sin and wrongdoing, hence they are infallible.
  • The Prophets and Imams are incapable of sinning and making even a minor error
  • Occultation of Imam Mehdi As
  • The 12th Imam, Imam Mehdi As has been in occultation since the start of His Imamat. There have been two duration of the Ghaybat: Minor occultation (Ghaybat e Sughra) and the Greater occultation (Ghaybat e Kubra).
  • Intercession (Shafa’a)
  • The prophet and the Imams will intercede for the Momineen on the Day of Judgment, meaning they will ask Allah for forgiving the Sins of their followers and lovers.
  • Raj’a (Return of certain individuals)
  • Some wicked and righteous individuals will made to return so that they could watch the justice being made by Imam Mehdi As before Qiyamah.
  • Superiority
  • The 12 Imams are superior of all the creation except the Holy prophet who is superior to the 12 Imams.

The main source of belief of the Shia Islam is the Quran interpreted by the 14 Masomeen by hadiths and directives given to their followers. The Shia Muslims receive the Islamic law (Sharia) from non-other than the 12 divinely appointed authorities.
